DELTA FAIR PARADE
We cordially invite you to participate in the Delta Fair Parade. The Parade will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2024
Each band that participates in the Parade will be admitted to the Delta Fair that night at no charge. Please keep in mind that because of the length of the Parade and the gaps it creates, bands should not perform routines that slow the progress of the parade.
The Kennett Police Department will close Washington Street from the North By-Pass to Walter Street (in front of Kennett High School) after 4:30 p.m. on the afternoon of the Parade.
The North By-Pass at St. Francis Street (Highway 84), Ballard Street and W. Washington becomes very congested prior to the Parade.
School band buses, please use the North By-Pass to approach the Kennett High School Gymnasium, and to leave. Band students can depart buses in the gym parking lot and walk to the area in front of the High School. PARENTS or BAND STUDENTS: Please use this same route and avoid the corner of Washington and Walter Streets.
We encourage organizations to enter floats in the parade. It is permissible for commercial firms to sponsor float entries.
The prize money for floats will be awarded as follows:
1st place $1000
2nd place $600
3rd place $450
4th place $350
5th place $250
Because of the safety hazard, we ask parade participants to throw candy with caution. Candy should be thrown toward the ground and not into the crowd. We also ask that anyone in the crowd not run into the street to retrieve the candy thrown.
Please note the following changes regarding Pageant winners: Delta Fair Pageant Royalty will ride on a float sponsored by the Delta Fair Board. This float will not be eligible for prize money. Participants on the float will be limited to Queens only, no alternates. Also, to be eligible to ride on the float the participant must be at least 5 years old.
Other pageant participants will abide by the same rules as the Delta Fair Pageant. Queens only will be allowed to ride in the parade, no alternates. Also, to be eligible to ride in the parade the Queen must be at least 5 years old.
All other beauty pageant winners who show up at the parade line-up area on the evening of the parade, without registration, will be placed at the end of the parade line-up. Again, Queens only, no alternates. Parade entries should be entered with the Kennett Chamber of Commerce no later than Friday, September 20, 2024. Any entry received after that date will be moved toward the end of the Parade. Parade line up information will be available from the Chamber beginning Monday, September 23, 2024.
